| 2-methyl-p-phenylenediamine sulphate Usage And Synthesis |
Definition | ChEBI: 2,5-diaminotoluene sulfate is an organic sulfate salt obtained by combining 2,5-diaminotoluene with one molar equivalent of sulfuric acid; occurs as an intermediate during hair dye formulation. It has a role as an allergen. It is an organic sulfate salt and a diamine. It is functionally related to a 2-methyl-1,4-phenylenediamine. | General Description | Light tan to light purple powder. | Air & Water Reactions | Insoluble in water. | Reactivity Profile | Acidic organic/inorganic salts, such as 2-methyl-p-phenylenediamine sulphate , are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydrogen ions and have pH's of less than 7.0. They react as acids to neutralize bases. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of inorganic acids, inorganic oxoacids, and carboxylic acid. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible. Many of these compounds catalyze organic reactions. | Fire Hazard | Flash point data for 2-methyl-p-phenylenediamine sulphate are not available. 2-methyl-p-phenylenediamine sulphate is probably combustible. | Safety Profile | An experimental
teratogen. Experimental reproductive
effects. Questionable carcinogen with
experimental tumorigenic data. Mutation
data reported. When heated to
decomposition it emits toxic fumes of SOx and NOx. See also AROMATIC AMINES
and SULFATES. |
