This compound can cause severe dermatitis in sensitized persons. It may also cause drowsiness, dryness of mouth, nasal congestion, postural hypotension, lowering of body temperature, tachycardia, arrhythmias, agitation, insomnia, depression, miosis and mydriasis, convulsions, photosensitivity, skin rashes, inhibition of ejaculation, obstructive jaundice, chronic constipation, urinary retention, various hematological disorders, allergic reactions, development of purple pigmentation in exposed skin, deposition of pigment in eyes and altered endocrine functions. It reduces the efficiency of heat regulation such that individuals tend to acquire the temperature of the environment. It also reduces salivary and gastric secretion.
