EXAMPLE 10A 1-{2-[(4-chlorophenyl)thio]phenyl}ethanone 2-Nitroacetophenone (2.5 g, 15.13 mmol), anhydrous K2CO3 (4.18 g, 30.27 mmol) and 4-chlorothiophenol (2.4 g, 16.65 mmol) in DMF (35 mL) were combined and stirred at 50° C. for 12 hours. The mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The acetate extract was washed with water, brine, dried with anhydrous MgSO4, filtered, and the filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, 9:1 hexane:ethyl acetate) to provide the title compound. MS ((DCI/NH3) m/z 263 (M+NH4)+.
