General procedure: phenylboronic acid (8.9 g, 0.073 mol), 4-bromo-2-naphthylamine (13.5 g, 0.061 mol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium (3.62 g, 0.003 mol), potassium carbonate (25.3) g, 0.183 mol) was added to 75 mL of 1,4-dioxane, 75 mL of toluene, and 30 mL of distilled water, and refluxed for 12 hours.After cooling to room temperature, extraction with ethyl acetate, and separation by column chromatography to give [Intermediate 1-c] 10 g (75% yield).
