General procedure: DPPA (0.15 mmol) and DBU (0.30 mmol) were added to a solution of the appropriate aldoxime (0.10 mmol) in xylenes (0.5 mL). After stirring for 2-16 h at reflux, the mixture was cooled to r.t. and sat. aq NaHCO3 (2.0 mL) was added. After stirring for 5 min, the mixture was diluted with water (20 mL). The aqueous layer was then washed with EtOAc (25 mL) and acidified with 1 N aq HCl to pH 2. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (2 x 30 mL) and the combined organic extracts were washed with brine (30 mL) and dried over Na2SO4. Concentration of the solvent in vacuo followed by purification of the residue on a short column (silica gel, EtOAc-n-hexane, 1:1 to 3:1) gave the desired tetrazole.
