A solution of dicyclohexylphosphine (98%; 35.30 g, 174 mmol) in chlorobenzene (90.10 g) was heated to 80 ⁰C. Ethyl trichloroacetate (30.17 g, 158 mmol) was added dropwise over a period of 46 min while maintaining the temperature of the reaction mixture at 80⁰C. After additional digestion of the reaction mixture at 80⁰C for 1.7 h, it was distilled in vacuo producing dicyclohexylchlorophosphine (29.63 g, 80.6% yield) in 98.9% purity by ³¹P NMR.
