Steps:

141.1 Step 1: (S) -2- ( ( ( (9H-Fluoren-9-yl) methoxy) carbonyl) amino) propanoic acid
Step 1: (S) -2- ( ( ( (9H-Fluoren-9-yl) methoxy) carbonyl) amino) propanoic acid[2089]To a solution of L-alanine (5 g, 56.18 mmol) in a mixed solvent of H2O/dioxane (v/v 1/1, 400 mL) were added sodium carbonate (29.8 g, 280.9 mmol) and N- (9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyloxy) succinimide (28.4 g, 84.27 mmol) . The mixture was stirred at rt for 18 hours. The mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was extracted with ethyl ether (100 mL × 3) . The aqueous layer was acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate (150 mL × 3) . The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated to give a white solid (17.3 g, 99) .[2090]MS-ESI (pos. ion) m/z: 334.2 [M+Na]+.
