A solution of paraformaldehyde (16.0g, 506mmol) was added 2-phenylethyl alcohol (1) (41.5g, 334mmol) and stirred, then added dropwise concentrated hydrochloric acid 36-38% (of 37 mL), warmed to 36 . 20h reaction, the reaction is complete the basic raw material, the end of the reaction, was allowed to stand under cooling to room temperature. The organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate overnight, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give a pale green oil 45.3g, 99% yield.
