Methyl 5-bromo-2-methoxybenzoate
Trimethylsilyldiazomethane (2 M solution in hexane, 40 mL, 80.0 mmol) was added to a solution of 5-bromo-2-methoxybenzoic acid (5.00 g, 21.6 mmol) in methanol (100 mL) at 0° C., and the resulting solution was stirred at room temperature for 4 h.
The reaction mixture was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was purified via flash chromatography on silica gel (solvent gradient: 0-20% ethyl acetate in petroleum ether) to yield 5.26 g (99%) of the title compound as a white solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.91 (s, 1H), 7.58-7.54 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 6.87 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 3.90 (s, 6H).
