Testosterone cypionate is a synthetic derivative of testosterone in the form of an oil-soluble 17 (beta)-cyclopentylpropionate ester. It is synthesised from a 3-cyclopentylpropionic acid and a testosterone.

First, under nitrogen, 5g of testosterone in 25ml DMA (solvent), as well as 1.7ml pyridine (base) are well mixed, and then, at 0-10 deg.C. add 3.2ml cyclopentyl propionyl chloride. React for 5 hours at room temperature. after completion of the reaction, 8ml of water was added and 0.05g of testosterone cypionate, after stirring for 1 hour and the precipitated product was filtered, and then rinsed under aqueous acetone and the product dried in vacuo at room temperature after to obtain 5.5g of testosterone cypionate acid, yield 77%, HPLC: 98.77%.
