Steps:

2.5.1. General procedures for the synthesis of Indigoid dyes:
Nitrobenzaldehyde derivatives (1 mmol) were dissolved in20 mL of acetone:water (1:1 v/v). After cooling to -5° C, 5mLaqueous solution of 1M NaOH was added dropwise to adjust the pH to 10. The mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature.The resulting precipitate was collected by suction filtration, and then precipitates were washed with acetone and distilled water until washings ran colorless.
