Steps:

2.2 (2) 5-aldehyde losartan

317g of losartan (0.75mol) was dissolved in DMF (1000mL) and was added in portions with stirring 418.5g of PDC. Temperature was not to exceed 50°C. After addition of PDC was complete, it was stirred at room temperature for 6 hours. The reaction solution was poured into 5000g of water. The solution was extracted three times with ethyl acetate (2500mL × 3). The combined organic phases was washed saturated brine (2500mL) then dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. it was filtered and concentrated to give 296g of a solid 5-aldehyde losartan, yield 94%
